COMMUNITY FEATURES

The city of North York covers the entire northern half of Toronto and nearly touches almost every other city or town that makes up the Greater Toronto Area.  It’s great size can only provide many places to live for apartment goers while taking in fact the issues of price and accessibility for people wanting to work in Toronto.

The largest buildings in North York are located in the middle of a city on Yonge Street. North York's  City Hall is truly the centre of the city, while holding numerous public events, none are bigger than the city’s New Years celebration.  Also located beside City Hall is the Ford Centre for The Performing Arts.  This is a great building to catch one of your favorite plays or musicals.

North York is a great place to live in terms of accessibility to shopping malls.  Both Fairview mall, which is located at Sheppard Avenue, and Highway 404 and Yorkdale Shopping Centre which is located at Highway 401 and Dufferin St, are huge malls that are surely going to satisfy everyone’s needs.  Between the two there are hundreds of shops and a number of good restaurants.

Also Yorkdale shopping Centre has recently completed renovations that saw the creation of Silvercity Yorkdale.  This mega movie theatre features a number huge screens and many more seats.  Speaking of movie theatres another enormous theatre has recently been built at Yonge St. and Sheppard Ave. that has been appropriately named the Grande.

If you are looking for more entertainment as well as education, you can take in all the wonders of the Ontario Science Centre.  The Centre is located on Don Mills Rd. just south of Eglinton Ave.

North York is also home to Toronto’s other main university, York University. Located at Steeles Ave. and Keele St., the university is made up of a maze of large buildings.  It is also home to the annual Du Maurier Tennis Tournament that see the best players from all over the world come to Toronto to strut their stuff.  The campus also has various sports facilities that include Toronto’s largest hockey arena The Beatrice Ice Gardens.  Within the arena there is five ice rinks and several training facilities.
